In order to obtain the feel of an indie rock magazine, one must first take inspiration from professional examples.
The Shot
This is an example of a front cover of NME, featuring Kasabian. From first view, it is clear that this shot is posed, with the way they are facing the camera and holding the skull. Candid posed shots are a likely thing to use consistently in my magazine. The image quality is crisp and professional, likely to have been taken in a studio. The image uses a mixture of high key and low key lighting that contrast each other. This effect makes the objects pop out of the page more considerably. It is fairly monochromatic with the exception of using red as well, which places significants on the red colours. The shot itself is medium to show only what they need with the artists.
Clothing/ props/ positioning (mise-en scene)
In Nme, the figures are facing towards the camera asymmetrically. This could be used to convey a very direct mode of address. In the page spread, the artists are again looking into the camera which is effective at addressing the audience .
